How We Carry Out Steam & Gas Turbine Repairs With Minimum Downtime!
With portable equipment our technicians come to your generating station to repair worn or damaged:- Turbine and Alternator Journals, Hydrogen Seal Faces, Main and Exciter Sliprings, and other parts of your generating equipment.
We also repair:- Turbine Rotor Bores and Turbine Casings quickly and cost effectively In-Situ, using our specialist equipment.
In the case of Turbine Journal repairs our patented Orbital Equipment rotates around your stationary shaft.
The Benefits!
We come to you:- You do not have to make plans for transport of your turbine shaft to a workshop. You do not need to remove the shaft from the casing. You do not need to rotate or lift the shaft within the casing.
We save you time:- Some of these repairs can be carried out in as little as 24 hours.
We save you money:-The equipment does not have to be stripped down and transported or re-assembled. The savings on this alone are usually very significant.
We keep your plant running:- Downtime is minimised so that you can be back in production and earning money much sooner.

Turbine Journals & Alternator Journals |
|
Machining of a 500mm diameter Turbine Journal
|
Large Picture |
|
- We repair turbine journals that have suffered a failure, in-situ using our orbital turning and grinding equipment.
- Referencing the radii or parallel shaft at either end of the damaged turbine journal we machine and polish the bearing area back to the OEM's original specification.
- The most critical tolerance in such high speed shafts is the concentricity which is usually required within 0.013mm TIR.
|
|
Need undersized bearings?
|
|
- We cover standard turbine journal diameters from 75mm up to 800mm.
|
|
Hydrogen Seal Face Repairs
|
- Machining and grinding of Hydrogen seal faces is performed in-situ to repair scoring and any swash present in the face.
- We have designed equipment over the years to cope with almost any configuration and size of face.
- Flatness will be held within 0.025mm TIR (with respect to datums provided) with a measurable surface finish of 0.3mm Ra.

Slipring Repairs (Main and Exciter) |

In Situ Machining of Main Sliprings

- Generator and Exciter sliprings which exhibit signs of burning and scoring, can be repaired in-situ.
- The refurbishment of steel or copper sliprings of any diameter or length is accomplished by several different techniques. These include machining and polishing, grinding, linishing and honing.
- We repair the sliprings while stationary or on barring. We can provide equipment to rotate the complete shaft if barring gear is not fitted or has the incorrect speed.
|
- Helical cooling grooves can also be re-cut in-situ.

|
FATT (Fracture Analysis Temperature Test)
|
- Fatt (Fracture Analysis Temperature Test) samples can be removed on site using our proprietry equipment.
- This service is regularly carried out for our Power Generation customers and involves the removal of a doughnut shaped piece of metal from the end of turbine shafts (and other locations) which is then taken away for end of life or life extension analysis.

- We can internally hone the bores of Turbine Rotors in-situ to prepare the internal surface for subsequent Boresonic Examination.
- The process will eradicate scoring and corrosion damage and can remove up to 2mm on diameter or more if required.
- We can cope with rotor shafts up to 30 Metres in length provided we have access from both ends.
|
- Our service comes complete with a bespoke mounting platform and traverse system to enable rapid site establishment.
|
Turbine Casing Machining |
- We carry out the Milling of turbine casing keypockets and the drilling and reaming of locating dowel holes.
- We also perform the boring out of turbine blade roots.
- Milling of sealing strip grooves in turbine covers.
